Dr Ema is highly skilled with extra qualifications in challenging medical cases and enjoys working up cases thoroughly to ensure that pets have the best possible quality and quantity of life.  She also performs surgery including improving flat faced dogs airways - according to Dr Ema this is the most rewarding procedure she performs routinely as it so hugely improves the lives of these little guys being able to breathe easier!

Dr Ema is also a huge cat advocate and lives by the motto that “cats are not small dogs”.  She ensures to treat cats using the latest low stress and fear free techniques and is a huge proponent of reducing the anxiety associated with the vet clinic for cats.  Dr Ema’s first priority for Dr Paws North Ryde is to transform the clinic into an internationally accredited ISFM “Cat Friendly Clinic”.

She has recently seen the light and come over to North Ryde from the Eastern Suburbs so she’s looking forward to the lifestyle change of being close to the bush.  She lives with her husband and cat “Fanta Pants”. She enjoys pretty much all outdoor activities and is looking forward to experiencing what the Northern suburbs have to offer!

Dr Bernadette Freytag

Dr Bernadette boasts a very diverse background- being an American citizen born and raised in South East Asia, and having worked across Australia.  Her background has inspired a love of travel and exploring new countries and cultures.

Dr Bernadette has called Australia home for 9 years now, having initially been drawn to our shores in order to participate in the veterinary program at Adelaide University. With a special interest in feline medicine and general surgery, she is driven and looking forward to continuing to learn and grow within her chosen field.

Interests include catching up with friends and activities such as hiking- enjoying the outdoors and sunshine! Down time is spent doing yoga or lounging at home with her cat, Oliver (Ollie for short!).

Dr Bernadette is looking forward to being a part of the new era at Dr Paws North Ryde in 2018 and beyond, ensuring that all patients and clients are able to build strong, trusting and lasting relationships with the team!
